One thing worth saying about Peoria specifically

Peoria is long. It runs a very long way north to south, and that means “the nearest emergency room” is not one answer for the whole city — it depends which part of it you are standing in.

So do not take a web page’s word for it, including this one. If you are in the north of the city, the closest open emergency department may well be somebody else’s, and that is the one you should use.

911 holds the live picture of what is open and where, which no page can. If you are unsure, that call is not an imposition — it is the system working as intended.

Youngtown is small and sits close to El Mirage, so for most of it the answer is simpler.

What our emergency room is

A freestanding emergency room — a full-scope emergency department to the Arizona standard, rather than one inside a hospital building.

On site: CT, X-ray and a full laboratory, the same equipment list as our Fountain Hills emergency room, so the imaging and blood work that answer most emergency questions happen during the visit.

A patient who needs admission is transferred to a hospital. Normal, and not a failure of the visit. What happens where you walk in is the time-critical part: the assessment, the stabilisation, and the imaging and laboratory work that determine what you actually need. What being admitted involves.

Our emergency rooms treat envenomation and give antivenom, burns, lacerations and tetanus, alongside the ordinary run of an emergency department.

Drive, or call 911?

Call 911 if it is severe, if the person cannot be moved safely, or if you are not confident you can get there.

An ambulance is not only transport — the assessment starts in it, treatment can begin on the way, and the receiving department is told what is coming. What happens in the ambulance.

The local things that fill emergency rooms here

Heat, first and by a distance. Heat exhaustion or heat stroke is the distinction to know, because one of them is an emergency and at the start they feel alike. And your medicine list changes how your body handles heat in a way most people are never told.

Power cuts, which compound quickly — when somebody depends on equipment and carbon monoxide from whatever gets used instead.

And the desert, which starts closer to the houses than people expect. Rattlesnake bites and scorpion stings both have a correct answer, and in both cases it begins with not trying to treat it yourself.

We are not only for these towns

Our service area is the east and west valley and all surrounding cities. The towns in the title of this page are search engine plumbing, not a boundary — nobody is turned away for living somewhere else.

And if a different emergency department is closer to where you are right now, go to that one. The nearest door is the right door, every time, with no exception for us.

Questions people actually ask

Do I need an appointment or a referral? Neither. Walk in, at any hour.

Is it open overnight, at the weekend, on holidays? Yes. Every hour of every day of the year.

Is it a hospital? No — a freestanding emergency room. Admission means a transfer.

I am in north Peoria. Is yours really the closest? Quite possibly not, and if not you should use the closer one. Ring 911 and ask, or go to whichever emergency department you know to be nearest. We would rather you went somewhere else quickly than to us slowly.

What if I am not sure it is an emergency? Come in, or call 911. Which door do you need is written for that decision.

What about cost? Cost is not a barrier to being medically evaluated in our facilities.

About your bill, before you worry about it

Ability to pay is not a barrier to assessment and access to care in our emergency rooms — by law. An emergency visit bills at emergency rates, which are not clinic rates, and we would rather tell you that now than have you find out afterwards.

If anything you receive after a visit is unclear, call the facility you were seen at before you pay it. They hold the record of your visit, and they would rather explain a statement than have you pay something you do not owe.
