If it might be an emergency, call 911 or come straight in. Our El Mirage emergency room is open every hour of every day and takes walk-ins with no appointment and no referral. If another emergency department is closer to you, that one is the right answer.
There is a full-scope emergency room here, open at every hour, and you do not need an appointment or a referral to use it.
El Mirage Emergency Room — (480) 237-4922 Open 24 hours, every day of the year Address, map and directions
A freestanding emergency room — an emergency department that is not inside a hospital building. It is a full-scope emergency room to the Arizona standard, which means the assessment and the staffing are those of an emergency department rather than an urgent care.
On site: CT, X-ray and a full laboratory — the same equipment list as our Fountain Hills emergency room. So the imaging and blood work that answer most emergency questions happen during your visit rather than at an appointment next week.
Walk in at any hour. There is no appointment, no referral, and no closing time.
A patient who needs to be admitted is transferred. That is how freestanding emergency departments work, and it is not a sign the visit went wrong.
What happens here is the part that is time-critical: being assessed, being stabilised, and having the imaging and laboratory work done that determines what you actually need. What being admitted involves.
Envenomation, including antivenom. Burns. Lacerations. Tetanus. Alongside the ordinary run of an emergency department — chest pain, breathing trouble, injuries, fevers, abdominal pain.
If you are weighing whether something qualifies, which door do you need is the honest version of that question. The emergency room is the safer side to be wrong on.
Heat is the hazard that puts more people in emergency rooms here than anything else on this list, and it is worth knowing two things about it.
The difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke matters, because one of them is an emergency and the two feel similar at the start. Which is which.
And your medicine list changes how your body handles heat — a fact most people are never told by anybody. The medicines that do it.
If you work outdoors, those two pages are the ones to read before June rather than during it.
When the power goes out, two more things follow that are genuinely dangerous: the heat itself when somebody depends on equipment, and carbon monoxide from whatever gets used instead.
Our service area is the east and west valley and all surrounding cities. The town in the title of this page is search engine plumbing, not a boundary. Nobody is turned away for living somewhere else, and there is no catchment you have to be inside.
And if a different emergency department is closer to where you are right now, go to that one. The nearest door is the right door, every time, with no exception for us.
Do I need an appointment? No. Walk in, at any hour.
Do I need a referral? No.
Is it open overnight and on holidays? Yes — 24 hours, every day of the year.
Is it a hospital? No, a freestanding emergency room. Admission means a transfer to a hospital.
Can I bring a child? Yes.
What if I cannot pay? Cost is not a barrier to being medically evaluated in our facilities. Be seen; the billing conversation comes afterwards.
Should I drive here or call 911? Call 911 if it is severe, if the person cannot be moved safely, or if you are not sure you can get there. An ambulance is not just transport — assessment starts in it.

Ability to pay is not a barrier to assessment and access to care in our emergency rooms — by law. An emergency visit bills at emergency rates, which are not clinic rates, and we would rather tell you that now than have you find out afterwards.
If anything you receive after a visit is unclear, call the facility you were seen at before you pay it. They hold the record of your visit, and they would rather explain a statement than have you pay something you do not owe.
